Saturday afternoons aren’t really a thing.
It’s a time we spend doing things in preparation for other things. Life admin. Laundry. Pre-drinks. We’re too busy waiting to slap the ‘Saturday Night’ disco ball on our Boomerang to even notice the passing of the preceding afternoon. And while the hashtag #sundaymorning brings up nearly 5 million cups of coffee and avo on toast, #saturdayafternoon drags up little more than 500k squares of, well, nothing in particular.
But what if we filled that time with something meaningful? What if, rather than waiting for those typical weekend moments - as defined by the collective online consciousness - to occur we created our own moment? What if we got out into the fresh air and shared a few drams of whisky with a bunch of interesting people?
This weekend we did just that. We laced up our walking boots, lined our stomachs and joined Sheffield’s first Walking Whisky Wellness event.
Founded by Penny Lee, an expert in filling spaces with creatives and creative ideas, Walking Whisky Wellness brings people out from behind their desks into the great outdoors for an afternoon of walking, learning, brainstorming and, well, whisky tasting.
After meeting in Endlcliffe park we followed the Porter Brook towards Whitely Woods, stopping at various points to enjoy a dram of whisky from some of Scotland’s finest distilleries. The weather was good, the conversation was flowing (after the first dram at least) and the whisky was incredible. After a few hours we swayed back into the city outskirts to enjoy bread, meats and cheeses (along with what was left of the whisky) at the wonderful La Copolla deli.
#Walking. #Whisky. #Wellness. There you go, #saturdayafternoon - three new hashtags to keep you company.
